He was a born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Paul and Mary Bowman Nickell. George was a registered nurse and served in the United States Army. During his time in the military, he was a specialist and was an airfield firefighter. He was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was a member of the men’s prayer group. George loved the Kentucky Wildcats and enjoyed traveling, cooking, and frisbee golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Kathryn Griffith, Paula Silvia, and Jackie Nickell; and one grandson, Tavon.
Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Susie Grant Nickell; four children, Tim (Michelle) Nickell, Susie (Jason) Saunders, Kimberly (Shannon) Wright, and Kristi Breckenridge; five brothers, David (Mary) Nickell, Richard (Christine) Nickell, Dennis (Becky) Nickell, Brian (Cris) Nickell, and Kevin Nickell; two sisters, Marilynn (Rich) Weaver and Brenda (Steve) Raquarth; nine grandchildren, Gavin, Brea, J.C., Jackson, Amara, Ronan, Darius, Mariah (Collin), and Makayla; two great- grandchildren, Khalil and Khaila; several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The funeral is Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 12 pm Noon at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with
Pastor Brian Combs officiating.
Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 pm and continue after 10 am Saturday at the funeral home.
