Born on October 26, 1937 Clyde’s love for cars began at an early age. A gifted mechanic, he spent much of his life working on cars and racing at the local drag strips. Clyde was a fixture at car shows and races, where his enthusiasm for the sport and his vast knowledge of automotive history made him a beloved figure in the community. He was happiest when he was elbow-deep in an engine or surrounded by friends sharing stories about the latest races. One of his proudest achievements came in 1969 when he set a national record with the NHRA for the fastest speed. Yet, as much as he cherished that accomplishment, his family was his true pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Beverly Keplinger Grimes. His parents Clyde E. Sr and Nettie Grimes; two sisters Faye Allen, Janie Grimes.
He is survived by one sister Roxie Mansfield, two brothers Phillip (Della) Grimes, and Cecil Grimes.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Tammy (Preston) VanDerMeiren and Nicole (Luke) Hines along with six grandchildren who he delighted in sharing their stories and accomplishments with anyone who would listen: Morgan and Lucas VanDerMeiren, Landen, Grayson, Emmy Kate, and Crew Hines. Clyde’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the countless friends who cherished him.
Clyde’s life was a testament to hard work, a love for family, and the joy found in pursuing one’s passions. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
