Our beloved Yolanda Medina was called home by the Lord on August 19th 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Alicia A. Medina and baby sister Sylvia Medina. She is survived by sisters Celia Medina and Alice M. Borrego and brother in law David Borrego.
In her early years Yolanda was a Catholic Charismatic doing lay missionary work in the Juarez colonias where she ran a free clinic for impoverished people. During Christmas time, she would collect toys and food to be distributed to disadvantaged people who went to the clinic. During this period she accompanied the Nueva Vida group and Sister Linda Koontz on fact finding trips to the Sierra Madre Occidental which was located 300 miles southwest of El Paso, TX in Old Mexico and inhabited by 70,000 Tarahumara and Tepehuane Indians and others to provide financial assistance for food and medical supplies and the creation of the Tarahumara Fund which she took charge. She was also very involved with Our Ladys Youth Center assisting Executive Director Father Richard Thomas (deceased). In her later years she was an RCIA Catechist and Eucharistic Minister at St Patrick’s Church. Although she at times held office positions at government offices, her focus was always centered on helping the needy.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2022, from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N Carolina Dr. with a Vigil beginning at 11:00am.
