Silvia was born Nov. 2, 1944, in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico, the oldest daughter to Celia Rosas and Pedro Solis. At 16, Silvia immigrated to the United States to live with her aunt and uncle, Magdalena and Juan Singh of Anthony, Texas. Several years later, she met the love of her life, Arturo Eduardo Chavez, and the couple married Feb. 16, 1974. In 1992, Silvia and Arturo opened the Red Rooster Café in Anthony, Texas, which they owned and operated together until Arturo’s death March 24, 1999. Silvia ran the restaurant, which was known for delicious salsa, menudo and caldo de res, until her retirement in 2007. She was then doted upon by her two adoring children, Adriana and Arturo Fernando Chavez.
Despite her illness and health issues, Silvia continued to cook, crochet and care for her home, and remained a supportive and loving mom to her children, who are blessed to have helped care for her during her final years.
Silvia is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son Arturo Eduardo Chavez, Jr.; sisters Ema Solis Rosas, Oliva Solis Rosas and Rosa Maria Solis Rosas; brothers Jaime Solis Rosas, Polito Solis Rosas and Cuauhtemoc Solis Rosas.
