It is with sadness we share that our love (beloved wife, mom, sister, daughter and friend), Dr. Rosita Vega died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 5:10 pm. She was surrounded by and her hands intertwined with her husband, all four children and her father during these final moments. She fought the hard fight in her courageous battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme (a very aggressive brain cancer).
Rosie completed her undergraduate degree at the University of the Incarnate Word, her medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine and her pediatrics residency at the Baystate Medical Center. In service to her country, she came to South Carolina as a Navy Lieutenant Commander stationed to serve the dependents at the Naval Hospital Beaufort. She was a well-loved pediatrician who served Beaufort, Hampton and Colleton counties for many years. She loved and considered her patients her “children”. Rosie was a wonderful wife of 26 years. Most of all, she was a wonderful and devoted mom.
She is survived by her husband, Luis R. Vega M.D, her sons Louie age 24, Isaac age 16, and her daughters Isabel age 19 and Sofie age 11. She is additionally survived by her father Manuel Gameros, preceded by her mother Julia Gameros and survived by her sister Julie Woodley and brothers Oscar, Carlos and Tony, all of El Paso Texas.
Many special thanks to our SC low country neighbors, friends and patients of Hampton and Colleton counties for their support of our family through this journey on her way to heaven. Additional thanks to our mother and grandmother, Olivia who was there to take care of us through this difficult time. Many thanks to Crescent Hospice for making the transition a beautiful one.
