Roberto P. Gutierrez, 89, of El Paso died Thursday (May 30, 2024). He was born on a Ranch in Portales, Presidio, Texas, and he attended high school in Marfa, Texas. He then joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18 years. He returned to Marfa, Texas and married Emma V. Gutierrez and they moved to El Paso, Texas. He attended Sol Ross University in Alpine, Texas. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and he resided under the exceptional care of the staff of Ambrosio Guillen Texas Veteran Home for the past four (4) years.
His wife Emma Vasquez Gutierrez passed away in 1992 at the age of 54. He served the United States Marine Corp. from July 3, 1953, until April 17, 1961(Sergeant E-4) during the Korean War, 1st AAA AW Bn. (SP) FMF, 29 Palms, California. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter Medal. Survivors include his three (3) sons Roberto V. Gutierrez Jr. (15 great grandchildren), Abel V. Gutierrez (4 great grandchildren), and Ray V. Gutierez.
Rosary Services will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn at 8817 Dyer Street, El Paso, Texas 79904 on June 4, 2024, at 7:00 pm (viewing commences at 5:00 pm). Funeral Mass to be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on 9025 Diana, El Paso, Texas 79904 on June 5, 2024, at 10:00 am with Rev. Fr. John Paul Manadu officiating. Interment will be at Ft. Bliss national Cemetery. As per Roberto P. Gutierrez and his sons’ wishes, all donations in memory of Roberto P. Gutierrez to Ambrosio Guillen Texas Veteran Home located at 9650 Kenworthy Drive, El Paso, Texas 79924.
