Richard D. Sanchez, born on May 27, 1950, was a loving husband, devoted father, adoring grandfather and great-grandfather, and loyal friend. He was a proud Navy veteran and life-long pilot whose love of flying never wavered.
He graduated from Jesuit High School in El Paso, Texas in 1968. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso, and joined the Navy after, commissioning as an officer. He served and traveled as part of a naval chorus group, an accomplishment that he was very proud of.
Richard loved to fly airplanes. He remained in awe of his career even after many decades. He traveled the world, made many friends, had many adventures and stories to tell from his years of flight.
He was an avid collector of books, of stories, memories, and adventures. He had an affinity for telling tales of his youth and his life, always peppered with his signature sense of humor. He also enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was digging ditches or chopping down trees, a love that he shared with his sons. He was a pillar and a leader in the community, always quick to lend a hand to whomever needed it.
Richard’s biggest joy in life was his family; his wife, his six children, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching them, guiding them, traveling with them, and took great pride in all of their accomplishments.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsie Sanchez, and is survived by his wife Gloria, his children Veronica Sanchez (Ignacio), Richard, Jr. (Macielle), Rebecca Lopez (Jesus), Christina Knott (Jason), John (Ashley), Alejandro (Haydee), eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home, 12400 Montana; services will conclude thereafter.
