Ricardo was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. He volunteered for the US Army at the age of 17 and served during the Vietnam Era. He returned to El Paso and worked at the Bureau of Reclamation while going to EPCC. In 1978, he became a US Customs Inspector and retired in 2000. He was proud to serve his country and community. He loved hunting, camping, collecting coins, and playing poker. His personality was larger than life and he cherished his family. After his retirement, he spent a lot of his time at the American Legion Post 26, which became his home away from home.
Ricardo was born to the late Ramon and Soledad Macias. He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Bertha, and children Laurie Perales (Ron), Rick Macias (Missy), Becky Carlos (Tony)and 9 grandchildren; Zach, Marissa, Nick Perales; RJ (Jessica), Tori (Michael), Marcus (Caitlyn) Macias; Cash, Nina, Mason Carlos and great-grandchildren Isabella and Josiah Macias. He is also survived by his sisters Carmen Cedillo, Irene Sobey, Bertha Garza, Cristina Macias and brother Arturo Macias. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ramon Jr, Enrique, Miguel, Bernardo and sister Maria.
He will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held on September 26, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina. A Funeral Mass will take place on September 27, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar followed by the interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson.
