Peggy Ann Zavala passed away peacefully on December 17, 2021, surrounded by her family. Peggy was born on December 8, 1950 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Vernell and Marion Oliver. Growing up in a military family, she spent her youth traveling throughout the United States and overseas. She met her husband, Gilberto Martin Zavala, in Mississippi and they were married on June 13, 1975. They eventually settled in Gil’s hometown of El Paso, Texas to raise their two daughters, Karlissa and Lauren. Peggy was passionate about working with children and had a dedicated career as a paraprofessional at Crockett Elementary. She was a devoted grandmother and retired in 2014 to care for her youngest grandchild. She was happiest when she was spending time with her family and her beloved pets, Chloe, Slinky and Daisy. She enjoyed the simple things in life - reading her bible, celebrating the holidays, traveling, baking and crafting. Her kindness and positivity will never be forgotten.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, father-in-law Jesus, sisters-in-law, Elvia and Sylvia and brother-in-law, Danny. She is survived by her two daughters, Karlissa and Lauren, three grandchildren, Annelise, Luke and Lily, two brothers, James (Molie) and Vernell “Bud'', one sister Bonnie, her loving in-laws Emma, Norma, Grace (Neto), Linda, Rodolfo, Fernando, David, Robert, Jesus Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home East. Visitation will be held Monday, December 27, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. with a chapel service at 9:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Reception following the interment at Martin Funeral Home East, 1460 George Dieter Dr. El Paso, Texas 79936.
