Patricia Wadley Naylor Purcell, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2013. She was born October 1, 1923, to Cathryn and James Wadley in Texarkana, Arkansas. The family moved to El Paso when she was four years old. They moved to Ysleta in September before her 6th birthday. When her daddy promised her she could have a horse – and she did! By that time she had a little brother, Linton. She went to Ysleta Elementary, then to Ysleta High School, where she graduated with honors in 1940. She was in the first Ysleta Drum Corps and also played in the band, played violin in the orchestra and sang in the school choir. She sang the lead in the first Ysleta Operetta and was in other school affairs. She was awarded a literary scholarship to Mary Hardin Baylor and a music scholarship to Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy (UTEP) in 1940, and was lead in drummer in the first Mines Girls Drum Corp. She was named freshman favorite in 1940. She also played in the El Paso Symphony Orchestra under H. Arthur Brown in the summer session at the college. While at UTEP, she met James Naylor and they married in 1943, and had two sons, Ronald and Craige. When the boys started to school, she became an avid golfer and was Club Champion at Ascarate Golf Course and the Compestre Country Club in Juarez, Mexico. She was divorced from James Naylor in 1965 and the worked at El Paso Natural Gas Company until 1968, when she married Jack Purcell and moved to California. Divorced from Jack Purcell in 1971, She went to work for Capital Records in Hollywood for 14 years until her retirement in 1985, when she returned to El Paso. She joined Santa Teresa Country Club in 1985 and was Women’s Club Champion in 1990. She was President of the Santa Teresa Women’s Association in 1999. She was President of Mountain Brook Villas Condominium Association (where she lived) from 1987 until her death. She was a member of Discover El Paso from 1985 until present. She was membership Chairman of that organization for 11 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Linton Wadley. She is survived by her sons, Ronald Naylor and Craige Naylor and his wife Toni. Also three granddaughters, Natalie Halloway and husband Jeff, Laci Box and husband Greg and Amy Simms and husband Gary and six great-grandchildren: Carson and Chase Halloway, Graci Kay and Ty Scott Box, and Rylee and Haley Simms.
