April 3 rd , 1957 in Juarez, Mexico. He was raised in El Paso, Texas, joined the Marine
Corp and served his country with an honorable discharge.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to his beloved wife Ofelia Melendez on December
16, of 1978. This union was blessed with two children, Oscar Melendez Jr. and Lilia
“Cindy” Melendez. Pete’s love for his wife and children was that of God’s love for the
church. It was frequently expressed through devotion, service, unconditional love,
commitment, and passion. He provided an amazing example of what a Holy
Matrimony consisted of for 42 years of marriage.
Pete Melendez volunteered in the Bel Air High School booster club for many years,
enjoyed camping, taking his family on vacations, cheering on the UTEP Miners and
of course his Raiders. Pete worked as a United States Postal Mail carrier for many
years and enjoyed retirement spent with his loved ones and traveling with his
beloved wife. He fulfilled God’s plan here on earth by serving as an amazing example
of our Lord’s unconditional love, forgiveness, joy, service to family & friends and
brought humor to anyone who he encountered. As a result of his generous spirit
with his pleasant and humorous personality he was loved by many. Pete was a
devoted father and thrived in watching his children and grandchildren enjoy the gift
of life and made it extra special with his presence and participation in every
important event and experience. His joy and influence will forever remain in the
lives of all who knew him. He quietly drifted into the heavens from this life, Friday
October 15, 2021 and was surrounded by the love of loved ones, prayer and most of
all Christ. He was preceded in death by his father, Faustino Melendez and mother,
