Neal Maverick Weaver, Sr., 70, passed away at his home in Cedar Park, TX on Monday, October 31, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ann Louise Weaver. He is survived by his wife, Ida Chavez Weaver of Cedar Park, TX; son, Neal Maverick Weaver, Jr. and his wife Jana, of Austin, TX; daughter, Michelle Weaver Cusimano and her husband Mike of Cedar Park, TX; two grandchildren, Justin Maverick and Ava Mae Weaver and his grand-dog, Bentley.
Neal was born in Houston on December 20, 1940 and lived there for many years. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston in 1959. He was accepted into the University of Houston and decided to study music. He chose the flute as his passion and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance in 1963 as well as a Master of Arts in Music Performance in 1964. After accepting his first teaching in Spring Branch, he was later drafted into the Army in 1966 during the onset of the Vietnam War. As fate would step in, he was later assigned to the West Point Infantry Band and spent the next three years at the West Point Military Academy in New York State playing the flute and piccolo. After his honorary discharge from the Army in 1969 and after and an extensive job search, he accepted a job teaching elementary school band at Alta Vista Elementary School in El Paso, TX as well as accepting the Principal Flutist position in the El Paso Symphony Orchestra.
Fate took another turn and that is where he met the love of his life, Ida Chavez Weaver. Coincidentally, Ida was the orchestra director at Alta Vista Elementary School and a violinist in the El Paso Symphony Orchestra. Neal and Ida bonded over music and shared their passions together, teaching school and playing in the Symphony. Their love continued for the next 41 years. Neal and Ida had just celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on October 9, 2011.
After Neal and Ida retired from the Symphony and from the public school system in the late 1990s, they decided to move closer to their two children. They moved to Cedar Park, TX and since then Neal had discovered his new passions…traveling, golf and photography. Neal and Ida spent the last decade traveling the world and enjoying their lives together with their family. If he was not traveling or spending time with his family, he spent his time learning the art of photography, playing golf and walking his grand-dog, Bentley, whenever possible. He enjoyed his retirement and looked forward to seeing new things in the world and creating a family legacy for his children and grandchildren that was undeniable.
Besides being the most devoted husband, father and grandfather, Neal had a very kind spirit and a very gentle soul for others. He was often reserved, but those who knew him best knew that he loved them very much and wanted to create a peaceful life where he could embrace his senior years and absorb as much knowledge from those he valued most in his life. He was deeply loved and he will be sorely missed.
We love you very much and you will remain in our hearts forever. Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday November 4, 2011 at Martin Funeral Home Central 3839 Montana Ave.
Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel Martin Central, El Paso, TX.
