Martha was born February 25, 1955 to Ernesto and Yolanda Saenz. She attended Bel Air High School and continued her education at the University of Texas at El Paso, graduating in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
In 1980 she married Javier Herrera, and they had two children together. Marty pursued a career as an educator for the Ysleta Independent School District, teaching kindergarten at LeBarron Elementary. She was very passionate about teaching and absolutely loved her job.
Marty was also an active member of the Cristo Rey Church, and consistently contributed to many charities. Her interests included reading, bible study and listening to oldies. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. Marty will be remembered as being very patient, kind and selfless. She never hesitated to help anyone in need, and devoted much of her time to caring for others, including her mother and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Herrera is survived by her husband of 40 years, Javier; her son, Javier Jr.; her daughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Kaleb; her mother, Yolanda; and her siblings, Gloria, Yolanda (Tweety), Cindy and Ernie. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Elijah and Kaylie; and many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Due to COVID19, services will be private and limited. However, services will be livestreamed on Facebook by Hillcrest Funeral Homes- East on Wednesday, February 10th from 12pm-2pm.
