Maria Luisa “Mary Lou” Hinojosa Lopez, peacefully passed away on January 19, 2018. Maria was born in Mexico on July 30, 1938, to Miguel and Soledad Hinojosa, Weslaco, Texas. She was preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Belinda Rose and loving husband, Johnny.
Maria met her husband Johnny in Waco, Texas, in 1959 and they were married April 29, 1962 in Weslaco, Texas. They lived in Grand Prairie, Texas and Albuquerque, NM, before settling in El Paso in 1967.
She worked for Rockwell International for a few years before joining her husband’s business, Lopez Utility Supply Company in 1979. She was involved in her children’s extracurricular activities including Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and most notably the Andress Band Boosters between 1978-1983.
After her husband passed she became a regular volunteer at the Wellington Chew Senior Center where she was well-known as the “Bread Lady” – by picking up day old bread at various stores and bringing them into the center. She was also the Treasurer for a few years as well and she was crowned the center’s Queen for the 2017 year. She enjoyed the center and often took her granddaughters, Avery and Victoria, to play cards with other members. In addition, she volunteered at the Discovery Shop, which benefits the Child Crisis Center of El Paso.
She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and served on the court in various positions and she attended Most Holy Trinity Church.
She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
She is survived by her children: Berlinda Ann Lopez and her partner Katherine Janda, Madison, WI; John Martin and his husband Roy C. Tarman-Lopez, Durango, CO; Elizabeth and her husband James Lovelady, Kennewick, WA, and grandson Aric David Drotts, Chicago, IL; and David Marvin and Armida Lopez, and grandchildren David Brandon and Genesis Lopez, and twins Avery Elizabeth and Victoria Rose Lopez. She was expecting her first great grandchild next month.

Visitation will be from 5:00-9:00pm Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Kaster- Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home 8817 Dyer Street, with a Rosary at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be at 1:00pm Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant Road, followed by a Committal Service at Restlawn Memorial Park.
