Maria Teresa Hayes

Maria Teresa Hayes, 91, of El Paso, Texas, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2014, at El Buen Pastor Baptist Church, 6420 Venusiano St., El Paso, Texas 79932. A private burial will be held Good Friday at Fort Bliss Cemetery.

Teresa, mother of Connie Hayes and wife of U.S. Army Ret. Lt. Col. Edward K. Hayes, was a homemaker who dedicated more than 20 years of volunteer service to the community.

Teresa devoted her time to Las Palmas and Hotel Dieu hospitals, assisting and comforting families, and working in the gift shop. She also volunteered at the Fort Bliss Thrift Store. She received awards for her service including presidential recognition.

Most recently, Teresa was a member of the El Buen Pastor Baptist Church. She also had been an active member of the Westside Christian Church.

Teresa participated in activities at the Polly Harris Senior Center. Her joys in life included gardening, dancing, swimming and traveling.

She believed in the importance of family and was loved by all. Her friends were her treasure.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ret. Lt. Col. Edward K. Hayes, and her brother, Javier Delgado. She is survived by her daughter, Consuelo “Connie” Hayes, and several cousins.
