When I arrived in El Paso in 1981 to begin work at the University of Texas at El Paso as a Librarian, one of the first persons I had the pleasure of meeting was Alicia Gonzalez who worked there, the spouse of Manuel for approximately 66 years.  This gentle and loving couple made me feel welcome and for a long time, I thought everyone from El Paso was modeled after Manny and Alicia.  I was privileged to know their children and many other members of their family.  If ever I witnessed a perfect marriage, I would state, without reservations, that the Gonzalez marriage was just that--PERFECT.  Manuel Gonzalez will be missed.

Manny.....We will miss you terribly. You were a true gentlemen from the get go and you and Alice have helped us in so many ways. Alice, Irene and Manny our condolences. Love John Brisson and Laurie Spaulding

I love you my sweet little brother. You were one of my best friends all our lives from growing up way into our 90's.  I have relived the dances, the parties, the good times we all had, Bea, Velia, Kiki, you and I over and over the last several days. I will miss you till we see each other again.  I cannot travel but I am with you in spirit.   Love, your sister Rosie.

In loving memory of our uncle.  He was known by several names including Uncle Nano, Nanito and Manny.   He was a tremendous shoulder I could lean on when my mother (Nano's sister Bea) was in a nursing home, later a group home and in the hospital before she died on December 17, 2011.  He helped me care for her in her last days by going with me to visit her, taking her to the doctor and continuing to visit her when I had to return to my home in San Antonio.  He cared for her when she need help like taking her to the store regularly.  He and I shared good times over the years even after I moved away from El Paso.  He would welcome me and my family into his home when we would visit in El Paso.  Who can forget his swimming pool where everyone gathered during the summers?  Who can forget his dedication to UTEP and The Dallas Cowboys?   Who could forget his friendliness to all?  Who could forget his willingness to help when help was needed?   He taught me some pointers when I began playing the drums at Morehead Elementary; he, himself, was a drummer I later found out.  He gave me my first 45 RPM record on my 13th birthday.  My parents had given me a record player but I had no records to play.  The record he gave me was Honky Tonk by Bill Doggett on the King record label;  I still have that record.  I have so many fond memories of him, he wife Aunt Alice, and of course his daughter Irene and son, Manny III.  My mom called him Manolo.  Uncle Nano was an inspiration to me in so many ways from honing my drumming skills to recognizing the importance of family values and living a clean, honest and happy life.   I miss you so much but I know that you are now in a better place where someday we will meet again. In loving remembrance from your nephew, Oscar (Aqui or Ah key)
