Luis Angel Hernandez was born on October 1st, 1948 in Tijuana, Baja California Mexico to his parents Juana and Luis Sr. Growing up in very humble, limited means as the eldest of his numerous siblings, his tough upbringing molded him into the hard-working, loving and passionate man he would later become in his colorful life. Luis is an esteemed, respected and well renowned musician in the music world that he rightfully earned after his many years as a dedicated musician, singer, arranger, and songwriter who made his living to provide for his family by doing what he loved.
It all began in his adolescent years where he performed in local night clubs with his musician friends in Tijuana where they would play music gigs to adoring patrons. His talents were immediately recognized, and soon he was playing bigger and more lucrative gigs in Mexico and across the border in nearby San Diego, California. There, he would gain new friends and associates in the music scene establishing himself further as a respectable pianist in the area, ultimately being enlisted for the Mexican group El Ritual, a progressive, hard rock band playing in the Avandaro Festival (also called the Mexican Woodstock) in 1971. He would move on to play many concerts and even tour several cities playing music to adoring fans all across the United States with the group called El Paso, all while continually fostering his natural talent, love and passion for music.
In 1976, he settled down permanently in El Paso, Texas after marrying the love of his life Gloria and had four children together effectively changing the discourse of his life to that of a family man and father; the most important role in his life that he would cherish wholeheartedly and with such selflessness. His passion for music only grew as the years went on with him playing various places establishing himself further as an extremely talented, versatile and charismatic musician, singer, and arranger to prominent figures in the music industry with names such as Juan Gabriel. He brought so much beauty and vibrance to different occasions whether it was a wedding, graduation, birthday, or one of his many tenured residencies at different businesses. His talent and charisma brought joy and light to many people over the years and he touched the lives of nearly everyone that he met with his endearing personality and endlessly creative mind. He served not only as a loving father, grandfather, husband, and friend, but he also mentored so many others along the way providing his vast knowledge of music to those who undoubtedly appreciated, adored, and learned from him.
It is with immense sadness that Luis passed away on May 29th, 2024 leaving behind a long legacy of his musical career and leadership that he respectively earned throughout his many decades of hard work and dedication. He even worked until his last days here on Earth teaching young students while never losing his passion or yearning to always learn and create more music. He is survived by his loving wife Gloria, his sons Luis and Gerardo, and his daughters Jennifer and Ivana, and he is preceded in death by his eldest daughter Audrey. He leaves behind his many grandchildren whom he loved so very much and adored greatly, as well as countless friends and extended family who will all miss him immensely. Although we are saddened by such a great loss, we look forward to being reunited with him one day.
Celebration of life services for Luis will be held on June 6, 2024 from 4:00pm-8:00pm, with a religious service to be held at 6:00pm.
