Kenneth James McDermott peacefully went home to the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 after a short time of illness. Ken was born on May 12, 1941 in Fall River, Massachusetts. He loved going back home to visit family, enjoying the ocean, and eating his delightful seafood of steamers, clam cakes, fried clams and a variety of Portuguese meals as well. He enjoyed his Narragansett beer to go along with them.
Ken was preceded in death by his Mother Loretta Dube, Father and Stepmother Alice and James McDermott, as well as brother, David Justice. He leaves behind his wife Lolly. His stepson Joseph (Marlene). Grandchildren Remi Grace, Anabella Grace, and the twins on the way! Sister and Brother in law Brenda and Marc Chabot. Niece Kimberly and husband Jon Davis. Their children Josh and Emma. Niece Rebecca and husband Jay Deeks. Their children Sylvie and Margeaux. Several cousins from Massachusetts, many from his Lolly family as well as many friends he made throughout the years. We can’t forget his beloved, spoiled poodle, Cinnamon who looks for him often.
We thank him for his 20 years of service to the United States Army. He had many memories of the various locations he was stationed at. Germany, Thule Greenland, Alaska to name a few. He worked on the Nike Hercules Sites throughout that time. He retired from Fort Bliss, in El Paso, Texas where he resided for the remainder of his life. He fell in love with the Sun City weather where he enjoyed many days on the greens of the golf courses throughout. He always said, he had seen enough snow in his lifetime that if he never saw it again, he would be just fine with it. After retirement from the Army, he engaged in the bar business. The Little Dipper Lounge, The Second Edition, The Plaza Lounge,
McDermotts Pub, are a few to mention. Where he found the greatest success and established his legacy is at the well known Track One Restaurant. He was the 4th owner with the longest run since it opened in 1972. There too he leaves behind his Track One family. Several who have been loyal since the beginning but all whom he did love very much.
The services for Ken will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024 with visitation, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with Rosary at 7:00pm, at Saint Patrick Cathedral, 1118 N Mesa. Celebration of the Mass on Thursday, May 2, 2024, 1:00pm, also at Saint Patrick Cathedral. Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 2:30pm. With gratitude, the family would like to thank the community of El Paso and all who gave comfort extending their loving support of condolences. Truly we are beyond blessed.
Thanks also goes to Tender Care, The Hospital of Providence Memorial, AM HomePAS caregivers, José Pablo, Maria, Lily, Eric, Laura and Private Caregivers, Gregoria (Goya) Holguin and Lourdes Rodriguez.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to his home parish of Saint Patrick Cathedral, 1118 N Mesa, 79902. Donations may also be made to lawnpaws.org. He especially always wanted to rescue neglected and abused dogs.
Rest in Eternal Peace Mr. Track One! We love you and will miss you very
much! To the King!
