Julieta Morales, affectionately known as Julie, passed away peacefully at home on March 24, 2024. She was surrounded by family, close friends, and her beloved dog, Suki. Born to Juan and Celia Moreno on January 11, 1937, Julie’s life was a rich tapestry of love and kindness, and she lived each day with joy and gratitude.
Julie grew up in Sunset Heights along with her siblings, Arturo and the late Irene, Ruben, and Oscar. She attended Vilas Elementary and graduated from El Paso High School in 1955. She was a proud member of the Tigerettes and remained close friends with many of her classmates. Over the years, she had a number of wonderful friends who shared her love of life and kept her spirit young.
For over 40 years, she worked as a bookkeeper alongside her brothers Art and Oscar at Art’s Photographic Supplies. She was a detail-oriented workhorse who kept everyone on their toes, yet she was loved and respected by her co-workers.
In 1961, she married Jose Angel Morales and shortly thereafter moved to the Lower Valley, making a home in her beloved neighborhood on Columbia Avenue. Julie’s love extended to her three children, Carmela (Iris), Jose Jr. (Krystal), and Marcelo, as well as the many neighborhood kids, school friends, nieces, and nephews whom she welcomed into her home. She will be remembered as a fun-loving soul who made time for every athletic event, school function, and field trip.
Julie’s greatest joys were her grandchildren Mason Rene, Javier Andres, Dominic Madison, Celia Irene, Maxon Rene, Joaquin Mael, and Mia Grace, and her great-grandchildren Scarlett Rose, Frankie Jane, Riley Raye, and Colter Hayes. They experienced her love and laughter first-hand and will carry on her legacy of unwavering kindness and unconditional love.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jose Angel, her sister Irene, and her brothers Ruben and Oscar. She is survived by her brother Arturo, her children and grandchildren, and a community of dear friends. She lived a long and happy life due in large part to the excellent and compassionate care of her providers Dr. Dinorah Nutis, Dr. German Hernandez, Dr. Juan Escobar, and Dr. Luis Porras. Her family also wishes to express gratitude to her wonderful caretaker Lupita Vasquez Marroquin, as well as her friend and confidante of almost 60 years, Trinidad Rojo Garcia.
A visitation and Rosary to honor Julie’s life will be held on April 4, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 128 Resler Drive, El Paso, Texas. Mass will be celebrated on April 5, 2024, at 10:30 am at Saint Matthew Catholic Church, 400 West Sunset Road, El Paso, Texas.
Julie’s life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, the lives she touched, and the love she shared. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live eternally in the hearts of those she left behind.
