Juan worked for the Texas Department of Highway for 30 years. He was a loving father, grandfather(Papo), uncle and friend. Dad enjoyed being surrounded by his family and visiting with old friends. Especially his life long friend, Lupito Ramirez, who was like a brother to him, “Mi Compadre Lupe”, as he called him. They spent many hours together reminiscing about old times and planning to visit their friends.
Tio Lupito sat right by him and yelled in Dad’s ear because he was hard of hearing. I believe he had selective hearing. He heard what he wanted to hear! When our roles reversed and I was scolding him for various things. He would say “No puedo oirte or No te oigo!” how convenient I thought.
He was the best “Daddy” a girl could ever ask for! Always by our side and on our side no matter what. Dad was a kind , loving, caring, and a generous man. He greeted everyone with a wave and contagious smile. He believed in the Golden Rule and definitely practiced it everyday. He loved each and every one of us for who we were and became. He believed we could achieve our dreams by his famous words “nomas echenle ganas mija”. He was a man of wisdom and consolation when we felt sad and life gave us lemons. He would say that's the way life goes “Asi es el beisbol”there is nothing we can do, but move forward. So here we are today with our hearts torn to pieces and we will follow his advice. We’ll continue forward and onward to make you proud “DAD”because “We’re the family of Juan Urbina / La Familia de Juan Urbina”
Catholic services will be held at Our Lady of Miracles Church in Sierra Blanca, Texas.
