Jose Ramon Miramontes passed away on November 12, 2021 at the age of 83, in his hometown of El Paso, Texas. After a courageous battle with cancer, he was surrounded by his loved ones, who will continue to honor his legacy. Despite the difficult treatments during his last ten months, Jose came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Jose was born on January 16, 1938. He met the love of his life, Elodia, while delivering newspapers to her aunt’s store when they were still teenagers. It was love at first sight, and they were married for 64 years. Together, they were able to provide for their children to lay a strong foundation that helped instill in them virtues that have helped them to succeed in their careers.
Jose worked at the El Paso City Lines then Sun Metro for 54 years. He received several accolades from his passengers as he went the extra mile to help them get to their destinations safely. Jose and Elodia were able to travel over the years and enjoyed spending time visiting their daughter when she worked in Oxnard California, New Jersey and New York City and San Angelo Texas. They also joined church excursions to Rome and Mexico City. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jose. He loved spending time with and driving Elodia to work until 2020, doing handiwork around his home, driving to Albuquerque to see his daughter and beloved grandchildren, snapping pictures with his Walgreen’s cameras, and visiting his sister and reminiscing about growing up in El Segundo Barrio.
Jose is survived by his wife, Elodia; his daughter Margie, his son Joseph, his sister Carmen Ramirez, his brother-in-law Cristobal Rodriguez, his grandchildren William (Bud) Dunn and Caroline Dunn, his son-in-law Paul Dunn, and his nephews and nieces David Ramirez, Rosemary Ramirez Calderon, Michael Ramirez, and Irma Ramirez Prieto.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 as follows: Visitation at Hillcrest Funeral Home on 1060 N. Carolina Drive at 8:30 am, a procession will follow to both the rosary at 11 am and the memorial mass at 11:30 am at St. Patrick Cathedral at 1118 N. Mesa Street.
