Jose Adrian Herrera, age 31, ascended into his heavenly home on Sunday, July 31, 2022. He was born in El Paso, TX on November 3, 1990, where he lived a full, loving upbringing and graduated from Bel Air High School. He became a UTEP research intern as a high school student and went on to start his college basics at NMSU before transferring back to the University of Texas at El Paso, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
As a young boy, Adrian struggled with math. Ironically, while pursuing a higher education, he taught and tutored students in mathematics at Ysleta High School while also pushing for internships and co-ops within the U.S Department of Defense. He first gained insight and experience by working alongside the U.S Army Research Laboratory designing data acquisition systems at White Sands Missile Range, NM before moving into spectrograph analysis, projectile physics and laser communications for the U.S. Center for Countermeasures.
Adrian was offered many career opportunities to include the U.S. Pentagon. Instead, he made his way to Detroit, MI to work for the U.S Patent and Trademark Office as a Patent Examiner. There he was able to attend a tedious training process on the regulations of intellectual law and examined software methods for patent protection. He later accepted a position at the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), which lead him to reside in Cocoa Beach, Florida. There he served as a Systems Engineer in space defense, monitoring nuclear treaties of all applicable signatory countries while obtaining his Master of Science Degree in Systems Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology. During this time, he was recognized for his successful outreach efforts in quickly bringing in graduating Air Force Engineer and Scientist Palace Acquire (PAQ) interns to the industry with a professional breadth.
While serving as President of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers in Central Florida (SHPE), Adrian dedicated himself to the mission and vision of the organization, volunteering his time, talent and treasure to support fellow engineers. Adrian was a champion for minorities in STEM and was a true servant leader to his community. He fully enjoyed what he did.
Aside from the daily grind, Adrian loved music, traveling with his family, experiencing different cultures, meeting new faces, classic Volkswagen vehicles, Crocs, buying random tools, and making people laugh. He was a kind, humble, caring and loving person who attracted many people with his warm, unfiltered personality, his jokes, and his knowledge for many things. He was the most loving husband, father, son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, and cousin. He shared this same love with his community of friends.
Although he left this world too soon, Adrian fulfilled a wonderfully blessed life of academic, professional and personal striving. Everyone Adrian knew will greatly cherish his impact on their lives, either through love, friendship, mentorship, spiritual teaching or his humor. He will always be remembered and beloved by his family and friends.
Adrian is survived by his wife Diana Isabelle Ovadia, his daughter KobiKai Azucena Herrera, his son Jahdi Anzu Herrera, his mother Irma Chacon, his stepfather Alfonso Chacon, his sister Valerie Herrera, his grandparents Irma Lopez and Efren Aguilera, and his large extended family. He is preceded in death by his father Jose Luis Herrera and nephew Zachariah Kit Hernandez.
Adrian’s Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022, from 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM with Prayer Service at 6 PM at Crestview Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2022, at 9:30 AM at Crestview Funeral Home, 1462 N. Zaragoza Rd. El Paso, TX 79936.
