Joaquin Borrego, Sr., our beloved Father, was called by the Lord on May 10, 2015 at the age of 71. He is survived by the family he cherished with all his heart, his loving wife of 47 years, Elsa Martha, and his five children: Joaquin, Jr. (Emily), Ernesto (Cecilia), Raymundo (Krystal), Elsa, and Eduardo (Adalina). He also leaves eight grandchildren that he lovingly adored: Matthew, Kaleb, Isabella, Nicolas, Emma, Valeria, Addison, and Victoria. He is also survived by his sisters Marina Martinez, Otilia Quintana, Socorro Franco, Dolores Serrano and his brothers Ramon Borrego, Jesus Borrego, and Miguel Borrego. He is preceded in death by his parents Miguel and Carmen (Salinas) Borrego, his sisters Guadalupe and Concepcion Borrego, and his brothers Lorenzo, Oscar, Antonio, and Salvador Borrego. Joaquin was born on January 16, 1944, in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico and lived a very adventure-filled childhood with his 13 siblings. As a child, he developed a strong work ethic and a love for animals, nature, and serving others. All this was driven by his strong faith in his religion and the Lord. These passions remained with him for the rest of his life. He married his love, our mom, in 1968 and they enjoyed a matrimony filled with memories. He is very proud of his five children and what they have accomplished in life. Even more, his eight grandchildren quickly became his pride and loves of his life. He affectionately referred to his children and grandchildren as his Borreguitos. By trade, he was an electrician and was able to do anything and everything with his hands. He was always very proud of the work he did. Even in his retirement years, he devoted countless hours at St. Pius X Catholic Church volunteering and doing numerous jobs. He was never one to say no to anyone who needed assistance as he was always available or made time to help others in need. Although our hearts are forever broken, we are comforted knowing that he is resting in peace, smiling down on us, listening to his Oldies but Goodies, and enjoying the animals in his garden in heaven with the Lord. Visitation will be held from 5-9pm on Thursday, May 14, 2015 with Vigil at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, May 15, 2015 at St. Pius X. Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Evergreen East Cemetery. Services are under the direction of HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME 1060 N. Carolina 598-3332.
