Jeannie Wolking, age 65, passed away peacefully at Kindred Hospital on February 18, 2012. She was born in Omaha, NE, and moved to El Paso in 1952, with her parents “Dewey” and Ethel Rhoades, and her brother Tom. She was a graduate of Bel Air High School, and of UTEP. She retired from YISD in 1998, after teaching 5th and 6th grade for 30 years. In that time, she also taught twirl at Champion Studios and assisted in running many cheer camps under the direction of Barbara Prewitt. She also assisted Barbara in day-to-day business operations. She was a long time member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, active in the choir and Bible studies. She was active in Order of the Eastern Star, and was an active member of the volunteer staff at Del Sol Hospital, where she had recently been elected to the volunteer board. She was a member of El Paso Past Matrons and Patrons and Ysleta Retired Teachers.
She is survived by her husband David, son Scott, daughter Kristi, son-in-law Jim Daniel, grandson Evrett, and brother Tom Rhoades.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. We will always remember her sunny disposition, her sage advice, her “silver lining” perspective, and the love with which she lived her life.
Visitation will be at Funeraria Del Angel Martin East on Wednesday, Feb 22, from 5:00-9:00 pm. Services will be held at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 9915 Montwood Dr. at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 23rd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church general fund.
