The spirit of our beloved mom, Grammie, aunt, friend, and teacher left this earth surrounded by family on February 29, 2024 after a courageous fight with a sudden illness.
Jane was born to Gerhard and Lola Harms on April 24, 1947 in Hutchinson, KS. Upon graduation, she continued her education at Pratt Community College where she met and later married the love of her life, Thomas Stokes, on August 10, 1967. They moved to El Paso where Jane received her Library Science Degree at Texas Western. She began teaching at Roosevelt Elementary and became the librarian at Hart Elementary where she spent 26 years sharing her love of reading with her students and was named “Teacher of the Year” in 1998.
God certainly called one of His finest chefs, as when Jane was not reading, she was cooking delicious meals and treats for her family with recipes she found on the Food Network Channel. Jane was the ultimate hostess of all holidays, whose attentiveness and love is irreplaceable. Jane loved traveling with her family and close friends and spent many years enjoying their home in Elephant Butte, NM.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerhard and Lola, brothers Doug and Dennis Harms, and her loving husband, Tom. Jane is survived by her son Billy (Sarah), daughter Nicole (Randy), three beautiful grandchildren, Lauren, Laynee, and Nicolas, sister Jean Waits, many nieces and nephews, and close family friends. Jane also leaves behind perfectly cleaned carpet, ironed jeans, and short shorts - all the things her grandchildren will fondly remember.
Although Jane will be greatly missed, we know she and Tom are reunited, wasting away again in Margaritaville.
Prayer Service will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 12:30 pm at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, Texas 79912.
