Harvey was born April 1933 in Barlow, Kentucky to Virginia Moore Bearfield and Frankie Roberson Jr., who preceded him in death.
Harvey was a faithful servant of the Lord while attending Ft. Bliss Gospel Service; he had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ which was evident in how he led his life and gave of his time. He served on the Usher Board and was a member of the Men’s Ministry.
Harvey enlisted in the military in 1950 at the age of 17, and was sent to fight in the Korean War. He proudly served in the US Army for over 30 years and was sent on several overseas tours to include Germany, Korea and France, as well as many state side assignments. He retired at the rank of E-8 and received many awards and decorations to include, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal 3rd Award. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Parks College and obtained his Master’s from Webster University. Harvey continued to work after his military service at GTE Lenkurt and for DOD at Ft. Bliss.
Harvey participated in many civic and community organizations such as, El Paso Sun City Lions Club (which included working the Annual Sun Bowl Parade), Friends of Jazz, Coalition of Valley Investors (Co-founder) and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Veterans at Breakfast. He received many awards for his leadership and commitment to civic and community organizations.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
Harvey leaves to cherish life by many family members and friends including his wife, Mary E. Roberson and daughters, Brenda Brown, Deborah Peterson (Roger), Erica Simmons (Deric), Renee Roberson, and sons, Warren Durrell (Wickliffe, Kentucky), Ronald Roberson (La Center, Kentucky), and Franklin Roberson; and brother John Ed Brooks (Kevin, Kentucky). He leaves behind many precious grandchildren and great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends to carry on.
Also preceding him in death was his loving daughter, Rita D. Roberson, brother, Urais Yates and sister, Charlotte Strong.
Visitation will be held on November 9, 2023 from 4:00pm – 9:00pm, at Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn (formerly Kaster & Maxon & Futrell), 8817 Dyer Street, El Paso, Texas 79904. Funeral Services will be held on November 10, 2023 with viewing from 11:00am – 12:00pm and service beginning at 12:00 noon at Hope Chapel, 2498 Ricker Road, Ft. Bliss, Texas. Final resting place will be at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 10:00am with Full Military Honors.
