January 27, 1941 – January 6, 2023
It is with profound sadness that our family must announce the sudden passing of our beloved (Daddy) father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Hardy W. Lewis on January 6, 2023.
He was born in Uvalde, Texas to Nora Vivian Hardy Lewis and Edmund Wilson Lewis. He had two older brothers, Gene Ray and Robert Lynn. The family moved to Del Rio, Texas where they lived until moving to El Paso. Hardy went to Ysleta High School where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball. After graduation from Ysleta, he attended Texas Tech and Texas Western (UTEP). While going to Texas Western, he worked for JE Morgan & Sons and Davis, Foster & Thorpe Architects. He went on to work for Paul Juen, George Thomas and Willis Homes before starting his own custom home building company, Lewis Homes. He was an excellent home builder and built many beautiful homes around Vista Hills Country Club and golf course of which he was a founding member. Golf was his game! He loved it!
As he had many accolades in golf his fondest memories were winning the Sun Carnival Pro-Am, Vista Hills Club Championship and playing on the PGA Senior Tour. Close to the country club he built The Cinders Steakhouse a beautiful restaurant with many fireplaces.
Hardy was preceded in death by his parents, son John Hardy Lewis, grandson Colton Hardy Livingston, brothers and wife, Susan Merrill Lewis. He is survived by his children David Wilson Lewis (Deborah) and Melissa Marie Livingston (Michael) and Tiffany Lynn Lewis and Ashley Ross Lewis. Grandchildren Amanda Lewis, Briana Lewis Jones (Colin), Garrett Lewis, Allison Rancich Jacobs (Dusty) Robert Rancich (Jennifer), Branden Livingston (Hannah) and Maddison Livingston.. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and his first wife and close friend, Claire Tappan Lewis.
Hardy was a very honorable, sweet and generous man who loved God, his family, friends and pets, especially his constant companion, Izzie! He was always cheerful and his laugh was infectious!
He had the tenor voice of an angel and when he sang “Oh Holy Night” in church, you could hear the angels joining in! I know that Hardy is singing right now for the Lord as he meets him on the 19th hole!!
Services will be Saturday, March 11th at 11 AM at Martin Funeral Home West. Following the service, please join us at Julio’s Mexican Restaurant in the Cimarron Market Place on the Westside at 1:30pm to share in stories and reminisce about good times with Hardy. Hardy loved get-togethers with his family and friends. Let’s show him our love with one last “Party for Hardy!”. Should you wish to make a donation, Hardy would appreciate it if you made your donation to The Cleft Out Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps families with children born with cleft palates or The El Paso Animal Rescue League.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MartinFuneralHomeWest.com for the Lewis family.
