January 17, 1931 – May 6, 2023
Guillermo Licon, known by his friends as Willie, completed his earthly tasks and was called home by the Lord on Saturday, May 6, 2023 in Conroe, Tx. Willie was born to Alberto and Ester Licon in El Paso, Tx on January 17, 1931. He was preceded in death by both of his parents as well as his brothers, Armando and Ruben. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Licon, his sister Thelma (Manuel) of San Antonio, Tx., his two sons, Walter Licon (Patricia) of The Woodlands, Tx. and Wendell Licon of Scottsdale, Az., as well as his grandsons Alec (Frisco, Tx.), Ethan (Washington, D.C.), Keaton (Scottsdale, Az.) and Keane (Scottsdale, Az.).
Willie was a proud member of the El Paso High School graduation class of 1950. After graduation, he worked a few years as a locksmith and then started his career at American Airlines where his passion for travel began. He retired from American Airlines in 1984 but his travels continued whenever possible. He worked for the El Paso Independent School District for 10 years as a school bus driver where he earned a second retirement. Although Willie lived most of his life in El Paso, he and his wife spent the last 18 years calling The Woodlands Texas home.
Willie enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and took their losses personally. He also became a big fan of the Houston Astros. His favorite activity was playing golf, which he did weekly until that was no longer possible. He did, however, continue to watch the PGA tour on TV every Saturday and Sunday. Willie was also known for his ability to fix all things mechanical, making him quite popular with his many friends.
Willie’s presence will surely be missed by his family and friends but we all take comfort knowing that he is in God’s care where life is anew.
