Frances R. Osborne

Ruth Osborne passed gently from this earth in the early morning of Aug. 1. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. “Bob” Osborne Sr.; grandson Christopher Daniel Osborne, her parents Idalia Clyde Helms Murphree and J. Reed Murphree; her brothers Monte Ray, Stephen Douglas and Jesse Preston Murphree; and her maternal grandparents Julia Westerman Helms and John Elias Helms. Ruth was born in Clint, Texas, on August 3, 1917, but was promptly moved to a homestead in the Aravaipa Canyon in Southern Arizona. She grew up an Arizonan. From the one room school house in Texas Canyon to Benson High School, to Business College in Tucson she excelled in school. But she wedded a Texas fiddler and he brought her back to Texas. They settled in El Paso, and together raised three sons. She was active in the Ascarate Grade School PTA and worked for many years on the county election boards.

In 1955, she chose to go to work to assist her sons as they reached college age.

She landed a position at the newly opened Burges High School. Ruth wore several “hats” at Burges, but was proudest of helping in the operation of the first computer system installed in the school system. She moved to Austin High School and retired in 1977. She instilled in her sons the importance of education and was proud of that legacy. It has continued through her grand children and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons Robert “Bob” Osborne (Dorothy); Clifford R. Osborne (Linda); and Terry L. Osborne (Linda); grandchildren Laura Doolittle (Charles); Lisa Brock (Jeffery); Philip Osborne (Pamela); Audrey Edwards (Danny); Travis Osborne (Julie); Kari Brothers (David) and 10 great-grandchildren Ashlin, Kaylin, Taryn, Jacob and Sarah of Arizona; Emma, Reed, Griffin, Karlee and Jack of Texas.

Services will be held in the small chapel on the grounds of Restlawn Cemetery, 8700 Dyer. A brief viewing will begin at 8:40 a.m. The service will begin at 9:00 am. Interment will immediately follow the service
