She was born December 17, 1921 in Port Arthur Texas to parents H.E. Elmo Ott and Druzelle LeMaster Ott . Growing up on the Texas coast created a deep love for the Gulf and for her Southern roots. In 1942 she met and married Melvin McCoy and remained married for 58 years until he proceeded her in death on January 20, 2001.
Often heard saying that big things come in small packages, she lived a full life with Mel, traveling and living all over the world as a proud military wife. She always sought new adventure wherever they lived and fully involved herself in the culture of the country where they lived. She was a devoted mother, raising both of her daughters as strong southern women. She lived life with grace, strength and beauty. She was fiercely loyal to family and also loved her Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother, H.E. Ott, Jr. (Bill) and sister Dorothy Owens. Her survivors include her daughter Elizabeth Heide and husband John Heide of El Paso, Texas, daughter Letha Peters and husband Brian Peters of Buda, Texas, Granddaughters Krista M. Heide of Houston, Tx, Kala M. Heide of Austin, Tx, Kelly Peters of Austin, Tx, and Breanna L Peters of Round Rock, Tx. She also leaves two great-granchildren, Kalani and Kendel.
The family would like to especially thank The Regency of El Paso and CIMA Hospice for their gentle loving care for Betty these last 7 years of her life. Special thanks also need to be given to Virginia, Prescilla, and Lulu who so lovingly cared for Betty.
Services will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 3500 Pershing Ave. at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 14th followed by interment at Ft. Bliss cemetery at 1:30. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
