Elaine Caruthers, 83, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on September 13, 2023. Elaine was born in Blue Ridge, Texas, on May 6, 1940. She graduated in 1958 from Lubbock High School in Lubbock, Texas. Elaine John was married to George Caruthers on August 7, 1959; they were married 64 years.
Elaine was an exemplary wife and mother and thoroughly enjoyed her role as homemaker. She was a devout Christian woman and led many others to Christ. She was a skilled Bible class teacher and taught children’s and ladies’ classes for at least five decades. She was a talented seamstress and clothed herself and her children beautifully. She had the gift of hospitality and entertained countless people over the years. She was an elder’s wife for 45 years. Her singular goal in this life was to be prepared for the next one, and we are confident she has heard the words we all long to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Elaine was preceded in death by her parents C.N. and Jo Anna John and her brothers Marion (and Barbara) John and Jerry John. She is survived by her husband George; her children Sharlette (Abel) Hernandez of El Paso, Texas, and Michele (Frank) Bellizzi of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren Marissa (Eddie) Cartagena, Kaylee Richardson, Rebecca Richardson, Travis (Tabitha) Hernandez, Aubrey (Austin) Rice, Sarinah Hernandez, and the “Connecticut grandchildren” Ravi and Sai; great-grandchildren Allesandra Cartagena, Roxas Cappelle, Sterling Rice, Abbie Hernandez, and Matthew Hernandez; sisters Sharon Clavel and Denise (Paul) Blake; and many nieces and nephews.
