Gracias maestro de maestros! Dr. Barrientos fue un gran maestro y amigo! Me dio guia para iniciar mi carrera profesional como catedratico en la Universidad de Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico.  Me guio para iniciarme en esa carrera tan noble que es ser maestro! Ahora soy un especialista en criminologia y he puesto en practica todas sus ensenanzas las cuales me han facilitado ser un profesional y saber como manejar mi vida en muchos aspectos! 

Descanse en paz mi querido Dr. Barrientos!

Please accept my sympathy on your loss. Dr. Barrientos was one of my professors when I attended UTEP. I remember him as a a good and impartial teacher.

I just found out that he has gone to heaven. I am proud to say he was also my instructor. I am grateful to have learned from him. I pray that his family are able to remember him in his great achivements to our community. May they find comfort in Jesus Christ our Lord. May he rest in peace.

Beautiful Tanya and family. I have such fond memories of spending time with your family. Your beautiful mom took care of us in Mexico during our dance years and the paella from your home was amazing. Guido Barrientos was a long-time friend and colleague of mine as a faculty member in the Psychology Department of U.T. El Paso.  I knew and respected Guido from the first day I met him in 1975, when I joined the faculty there.  He was always willing, with a smile, to help do what was necessary to help our students, faculty colleagues, or the greater good of our department and university.  

An example of such interest in others is my experience with Guido when I was trying to prepare myself for a trip to Argentina to explore the possibility of conducting a clinical trial of a drug for Alzheimer's disease there because of the regulatory and financial barriers to doing it in the United States.  Guido cheerfully spent untold hours translating my highly technical medical lectures about methanesulfonyl fluoride (MSF) into Spanish - my success there would depend on my ability to communicate in Spanish.  Not only did he translate the lecture into text, he adapted the Spanish to the Argentine form - using the verb forms and idioms specific for their Spanish which is somewhat different than Mexican Spanish - AND he made an audio tape of the lecture for me to use in practice.  We spent several more hours together practicing my pronounciation, hours that I will treasure in my memories of Guido.

My trip to Argentina was, ultimately, not successful but it was not because of my ability to communicate.  However, Guido's efforts paid unexpected dividends a few years later when I had the opportunity to do my proposed clinical trial in Chihuahua, Mexico, when I had to have a solid grasp of Spanish.    Guido and his brother actually visited my clinical trial in Chihuahua while it was being conducted and we shared some wonderful times together there.

Tanya, Carlo, and Rosie, Guido will live on in the hearts of others.  He was a great man with a big heart.

Dr. Barrientos was one of my professors about 30 years ago.  He was very memorable.  I always looked forward to attending his class.  I especially remember him talking about Guatemala and his experiences there.  He touched many lives.

I am a former student of Dr. Barrientos from the 70's. As a Latina, it was a powerful experience to see one of us as a leader, a professor and professional. I am now a psychologist and teach at a graduate school. Dr. Barrientos was a good role model and an educator with a great sense of humor! Dr. Barrientos was my Professor at UTEP. At the end of class one day he said next class a snake would be in the class. Not only was the snake there but a Photography from the school Newspaper. The Picture came out on the front page. We enjoyed his enactment of Palvo's Dog. One of my favorite Professor.

Dear Grandpa, 

You were one of smartest people I ever had the honor of knowing. It was always a treat to be able to visit you at your office when I was a kid and to see you while you did the amazing work that you did. I will also never forget the many late night hours that you would spend in the kitchen talking with my family and I about every possible subject from literature, science, politics to your many great stories about Guatemala. Most importantly though you gave me the most important man in my life, my father, and a great one at that and for that I'm forever grateful. I will always remember you and love you.

My condolences to Dr. Barriento's family. He was both my professor and later a colleague who I consulted when I worked with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. He did indeed touch many lives while he was here!

Dr. B was the best teacher, psychologist and therapist I ever had. I will never forget what he taught me, his advice, his encouragement, and all his help. He helped me get through a very difficult time last year. I will miss him so very much.
