She was born on June 2, 1925, to Angelina Rodriguez(later Palomares) and Armando Rodriguez.She lived in the Segundo Barrio, or South El Paso, for her formative years. She attended Bowie High School where she graduated as salutatorian in 1945.
After the war, she worked as a secretary until she married Jesus Varela in 1950. AFter living in a two-room apartment in South El Paso for three years, her family moved to a three-bedroom far east side home in 1953.
Between the years of 1953 to the early 80s, she was a housewife and support for her husband. She became a teacher's aide in the Ysleta schools from the early 80s until her retirement in the early 2000s.
She was a devout Catholic her entire life, and attended Santa Lucia Catholic Church for many years.
In addition to hear duties as a housewife and teacher's aide, she was also a constant presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Her kindness, temperament, and personality were always a comfort to all she came in contact with. Her loyalty and spirit of forgiveness made her a very special person. She was loved and esteemed by all.
She is survived by her two sons, William, 72, and James, 60, both of El Paso. As well, her four grandchildren, Marisol, 36, Olivia, 36, Jason, 32, Elton, 25, who will cherish memories of their time with her.
Delia was a sweet, warm, generous woman who gave her all to her family.
We miss her already.
She is in Heaven now , free of all the pain and suffering this world can inflict
A visitation for Delia will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915. A rosary will occur Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at 7:00 PM, 1060 North Carolina Dr., El Paso, Texas 79915. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 9:00 AM at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 518 Gallagher St., El Paso, TX 79915.
