While surrounded by her loving family, Delia Duchene returned home to the Lord on October 28th. Delia was an active member of the community where she served as President of the Women’s Club for Our Lady of the Light Church and was a “Block Captain” for crime prevention for EPPD, also a volunteer for the Paso Del Norte food bank. Delia was a talented musician who enjoyed playing the bass guitar and a graceful singer whose voice lifted everyone’s spirit. She donated her time and music at various events held at church and always found a way to serve her community any way she could. Not only was she dedicated to her community, but she was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Delia was the matriarch of the family; her genuine honesty and quick wit kept everyone on their toes. She was a strong believer in doing the right thing and staying true to herself. Not to mention, Delia told the best stories which oftentimes included the punch line to a great joke. As she lived out her last years, her sense of humor never ceased. She would go out of her way to bring out a smile from anyone and never missed an opportunity to tell a funny anecdote. Delia was the kind of person who never missed a birthday, an anniversary, a graduation, a quincenera, a wedding, or any momentous occasion that occurred in the family. She kept a calendar of everything and was always sure to make the person feel special on their day. She answered every phone call with a “howdy” or whatever holiday was taking place during that time. Delia was ahead of her time too. Before recording events on social media became popular, Delia would record every single family event and has hundreds of videotapes dating back to the 70s. Delia always said, “I record this so you could look back to see how you grew up and have a memory to carry with you and see whenever you want.” The memories she left behind are forever imprinted in our hearts; though she will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing she has reunited in heaven with her husband of 62 years, Fernando A. Duchene. Preceded in death parents Enrique and Angelita Porras, sisters Enriqueta P. Cruz, Ida Porras, Eva P. Porras and brother Samuel Porras. She is survived by her son Fernando A. Duchene Jr.(Barbara) daughters Ida, Gloria, Rosa (Eduardo), her grandchildren : Jimmy (Diana) Delia (Isaac) Paul (Yvette) Alysia (Adam) Amber (Freddy) Fernando III, Branden (Ariel) Eddie (Terry) Virginia and Cesar, great grandchildren: Mary, Ariana, Arleen, Anthony, Aleena, Landen, Akira, Max, Santiago, Brody, Emery: siblings Kiki Porras, Juan Porras, Chita Obradahuerto, and Myra Deucher.
