David Martinez, resident of La Union, was a loving husband, father, godfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor.
In 2022, David celebrated 3 grand celebrations; his 76th birthday on April Fool’s Day, Father’s Day with his beloved son Jerry (Lori), his 53rd wedding anniversary with his adored wife Evangelina Martinez, and passing onto eternal rest to be with Jesus.
David was born on April 1, 1946 to Florencio and Edonila Martinez in Penasco NM. He was blessed to come from a large family of 10 siblings.
He is survived by four sisters; Connie Trujillo, Inez Newstrom, Nancy Harryman, and Tina Campbell. He is survived by nieces, nephews and extended family.
He is preceded in death by Mary (Raquel Romero), Angie (Hector Atencio), Joe Martinez (Alicia/ Irene), Bertha (Ernesto Cordova), Rosie (Harold Gutierrez); and brothers' in law Joe Newstrom, Bob Harryman, and Jim Campbell.
He is also survived by his special canine companion, Angel, who protected, guarded and loved him.
On Aug 9, 1969, he married his beloved wife Evangelina Gonzalez, and for 53 years, they lived a life filled with many adventures, going from quick sand to rock solid ground.
David was a member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church, where he volunteered with the church in many capacities. He was also a mountain firefighter and firefighter for La Union Volunteer Fire Department. He worked at White Sands for many years. Prior to retirement, he worked at two Centers for the Disabled where he was a supervisor for the floor crew and for the disabled students that came to the center who were very special to him.
David and Vangie were chosen as “Senior Citizens of the Month” for September 2022 for the La Union Helping Hands Organization. David volunteered in many capacities with those in need, he did outreach with Knight's of Columbus and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
We would like to give special thanks to all our family, friends and neighbors, and David’s two medical providers, Marie Becerra, Nurse Practitioner and Dr. Alfonso Chavez, and his Physical Therapist Tony Godines and Joseph Chanoi and Altomar Staff.
A viewing will be held Thursday, Nov 03, 2022 from 1-3pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home West, 5054 Doniphan Dr, El Paso Tx.
A Rosary will be held Thursday, Nov 17,2022 at 9:30am at Our lady of Refuge Catholic Church, 1320 Mercantil Ave, La Union NM. Followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30am.
