EL PASO - Cynthia Lopez Fernandez, beloved mother, daughter, wife, and sister passed away on December 31st, 2020. Cynthia was born on April 20, 1961, at Hotel Dieu in El Paso, Texas to her parents Manuel Lopez Jr., and Aurora G. Lopez. As a young girl, Cynthia grew up in the lower valley of El Paso and attended Pasodale School. She was a 1979 graduate of Ysleta High School, where she was a member of the student council and Kiowa and was also voted as Key Club Sweetheart. She was a graduate of El Paso Community College where she obtained her associate’s degree in Information
Processing. In 1982, Cynthia was a participant in the Fiesta De las Flores pageant. Cynthia went on to work at the El Paso Electric Company in Document Management Services for two years before becoming a full-time mother and spouse.
Cynthia was married to Julian Fernandez on July 9, 1988, at La Misión de San Antonio de Ysleta del Sur and resided throughout her life in El Paso, Texas, where she was a loving, engaged, and devoted mother to her three sons Michael, Gabriel, and Vincent. She was deeply dedicated to her family, including her sister and brother Elizabeth Lopez and Fabio Lopez, and to her niece Ashley Lopez. Cynthia was intensely devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church for over 20 years.
Throughout her life, Cynthia loved to draw, create with her hands, and experience the raw beauty of nature and the outdoors. She especially enjoyed traveling with her family, with whom she would often take long road trips, go hiking, and enjoy weekend camping trips in Ruidoso and Cloudcroft. Cynthia was particularly fond of her childhood memories of traveling along the west coast and into Canada with her parents and siblings. As Cynthia grew older, she would continue to travel frequently across Texas, New Mexico, and California to visit the country’s most iconic locations and historical sites.
Cynthia will always be remembered for her unwavering tenacity and profound dedication to what was most important to her: her family. Cynthia continually encouraged her sons to think independently and creatively about the world. She constantly sought ways to bring her family together and was never the kind of mother or spouse to say that she didn’t have the time to do something. Her charisma, creativity, and compassion for others will always live on through her sons and loved ones. Cynthia’s life and legacy will forever remind us that while the world can be deeply chaotic and unfair, life is to be celebrated, lived fully, and sustained by continual gratitude. She will be deeply missed but will forever live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her.
In loving memory of Cynthia Lopez Fernandez
