Cleotilde "Cleo" Alvidrez Garcia, 89, was born on June 3, 1935, in El Paso, Texas, to Reyes and Hortencia Alvidrez. She passed away peacefully at her home on December 3, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Richard G Garcia (m. April 8, 1956), as well as her parents and four brothers Ignacio, Adolfo, Raphael, and Guillermo Alvidrez. She is survived by her five children: Richard G Jr. (Miriam Collazo), Virginia McKenzie (Dennis), Thomas R (Maria E), Jorge (Rita Sanchez), and Rosie Mota (Joey). Cleo is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Luis Alvidrez.
Born and raised in El Paso, Cleo was in nursing school when she met Richard, who was on active duty for the United States Army at the time. After marrying in April of 1956, the two settled and raised their family of five children in El Paso. In 1971, Cleo helped Richard found R G Garcia Bookkeeping & Tax Service, which they ran together until Richard's retirement in 2019. Her favorite pastimes included completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, watching boxing, football, basketball, and most of all caring for her grandchildren, and traveling. Together, Richard and Cleo enjoyed travels to Europe, Asia, Mexico, Canada, and several cities throughout the United States. Cleo's greatest joy in life was her family. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly. She was a strong, smart, funny, and generous woman who will be missed by many.
Funeral services: Visitation - Tuesday, December 17, 2022, Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N Carolina, El Paso, Texas 79915, from 5-9 pm with Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Mass - Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church 7712 Rosedale St., El Paso, Texas 79915, at 9:15 am, with burial immediately following at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
