With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, the Lujan family announces the passing of our beloved matriarch Maria Aurora Quintanilla de Lujan. Aurora departed this earthly life on December 17,2023 and ascended into heaven to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was 78 years young. Our grandmother leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Aurora was born on January 27, 1945, in Cuencame, Durango, Mexico to Julia Ojeda and Francisco Quintanilla. She was the third youngest of seven children (Elvira, Amelia, Eloisa, Angela, Consuelo and Humberto). In 1962, she met and married the love of her life, Ezequiel Lujan. Through this union, they raised nine children (Manuela, Jorge, Marisela, Hector, Isabel, Gloria, Aurora, Elizabeth and Diana). Together, they built a home in the Montana Vista neighborhood of El Paso where they welcomed loved ones and strangers alike. She remained a dedicated wife in sickness and in health until his passing in 2001.
Maria's warm and welcoming nature was evident in her passion for hosting gatherings at her home. She took great pride in preparing delicious meals for her loved ones, ensuring that everyone felt nourished and cared for. Her cooking was a labor of love that brought joy to all who tasted her culinary creations. Maria's hospitality extended to sharing a "café y un pan dulce" with every visitor, making them feel like family. The holidays were an especially joyous time for her. It was not uncommon to see her labor throughout the day on Easter or Christmas cooking a meal for all to enjoy, including her festive baked goods.
Aurora was a God-fearing woman, devoting herself to her church and her faith. She was a patron of Iglesia Juan 3:16 for over two decades, dedicating every Sunday to serving the Lord and helping her church. She found solace and strength in her relationship with God. Through the teachings of her beloved pastor Juan Valdivia, her faith shaped her life and provided a solid foundation for her actions.
Above all, Aurora was a devoted mother and grandmother. She went to great lengths to ensure the well-being and happiness of her children and grandchildren. To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as Mama Bola, Grandma Pollos, Abuelita, or Grandma, but the love and care she showered upon each of them was immeasurable.
She is predeceased by her mother Julia and father Francisco, her husband Ezequiel, her daughter Elizabeth, her granddaughter Melissa, her sister Elvira, Amelia and Consuelo, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her daughters Nelly, Marisela, Isabel, Gloria, Aurora, Diana, her sons Jorge and Hector, 28 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
We invite all that knew and loved Aurora to join the Lujan family for the memorial services for our mother and grandmother. A public visitation for Aurora will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Evergreen East Funeral Home & Cemetery, 12400 East Montana, El Paso, Texas 79938. A funeral service will occur Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 8:30 AM at Iglesia Juan 3:16, 14613 Eichelberger, El Paso, TX. A committal service will occur Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery East, 12400 Montana Ave, El Paso, Texas 79938.
