On March 19, 2023 heaven gained a beautiful angel. Audrey Lee Eskew Grissom peacefully went to sleep surrounded by her loving family and a dear friend. Audrey lived a long and very happy life filled with a lot of love, fun, laughter, friendships, and life adventures that she treasured. She loved all her family most of all.
Audrey was born on 8-7-1925 in Mart, TX to her parents Glenn V. Eskew and Thelma Hudson Eskew Butler. As a child, her grandmother Hudson took her every Sunday to the Baptist Church in Mart, TX. She was a cheerleader at Mart High School where she met James Harold Grissom.
Audrey married the love of her life James Harold Grissom on June 7,1942 in Texas City TX. After her husband completed his military tour during WWII, they moved to El Paso TX in 1945. She resided in El Paso TX for 63 years. After she and Harold married and had 3 children, the family together joined St. Paul’s Methodist Church in El Paso, TX. She was a homemaker and worked as a clerk in the El Paso Public School System. She loved to cook, was an excellent seamstress making all her daughters and neighbors wedding dresses. In her spare time, she took up painting which she did up to just a few days before her passing. Audrey was a member of the Eastern Star, Mt Franklin Rainbow for Girls, and served as mother advisor. After retirement she loved traveling with friends and family.
She was blessed with many different joys in her life. After the death of her husband, she moved to Ruidoso joining her daughter Linda Clark and husband Wesley Clark. She made many great friends and traveled with her family to San Carlos, Mexico many times. She then moved to Tampa to live with her daughter Kathy Grissom. At 80 plus years she joined the well-known “Krewe of SeaSaveYours” and participated in Gasparilla parades in Tampa and surrounding cities, events for fundraising for nonprofit causes, cruises, and a multitude of krewe related activities. As the oldest pirate in the krewe she quickly became known as “Mom or Mamacita” and she had “the time of her life” dressing up and being a pirate! It is impossible to capture her beautiful life and the impact she had on so many.
Audrey Grissom left an everlasting impression on all that crossed her path. She was full of love, laughter and happiness and will live in our hearts forever. Her family, friends and community are heartbroken. A special thank you to The Aristocrat and all their employees for taking such good care of her. May she rest in peace.
Audrey Lee Grissom is survived by her daughter Kathy Jan Grissom, Grandchildren Suzanne Harrison, Dana Capps, James Capps, Jennifer and Scott Clark, and Micaela Wolfe.
