Amy E. Boatright

Amy Elizabeth Boatright passed away at her home in El Paso, Texas at the age of 54 on April 2, 2019. Born April 27, 1964 in El Paso, she was the oldest child of James Edward and Jean Marie (Larkin) Boatright. Amy attended Burges High School and graduated in 1982 excelling in academics while working as an athletic trainer. From there she went to Texas A&M University in College Station, where she pursued her dream of becoming a veterinarian. For those who knew Amy, this is no surprise with her having a lifelong obsession with animals. Unfortunately, her love for animals was undermined by her queasiness at the sight of blood, and she changed directions focusing on science to become a teacher following in her mother and father’s footsteps. She later went on to get a Masters of Education from the University of Phoenix online.

At the age of 27, Amy was blessed with a baby girl, Johnnie Marie Boatright. With the tragic passing of Johnnie Marie’s father Ricardo Enrique Veloz in 1993, Amy focused on her daughter, her family, and her pets. Amy’s loyalty to her family, friends, and animals was unparalleled, she never gave up on anything she held dear to her heart. She was a full-time loving mother, aunt to five nephews, and mentor to many students, teachers, and colleagues. Amy thrived on being creative and brought a smile to everyone she met. Her sense of humor was her secret weapon to brighten anybody’s day. She loved decorating her house with themed rooms, such as, a baseball room and a Coca-Cola kitchen. She had a big heart for animals and owned numerous horses, dogs, pigs, donkeys, birds, and many others throughout her life. Beyond her family and pets, Amy was a proud fan of the Boston Red Socks, the Green Bay Packers, and the fightin’ Texas Aggies.

Amy was a faithful Christian, growing up attending the First Baptist Church and later attending Cielo Vista Church. Her faith was an anchor during the many trials that came her way. She showed her faith’s resolve after losing her mother and two months later losing her 18-year-old daughter. She always chose to see the best in people and situations and had a talent to find ways to celebrate individuals in her life.

As mentioned, Amy was preceded in death by her daughter and mother, who passed away in 2010. Amy is survived by her father- James Edward Boatright of El Paso, TX; her only brother- James David Boatright (Lisa Dawn) of El Paso, TX; five nephews- Justin David Boatright (Megan Rachel) of Santa Fe, NM, Jacob Daniel Boatright of Coral Springs, FL, Joshua Darin Boatright of Washington DC, Jeremy Dylan Boatright of Alpine, TX, and Colton Jake Woodruff of Port Orchard, WA; a great-nephew- Noah James Boatright; and her three dogs- Fenway, Diamond, and RBI.

A viewing and visitation will be held on Friday April 5 from 5pm-7pm at Martin Funeral Home East (1460 George Dieter Dr, El Paso, TX).

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday April 6 at First Baptist Church (805 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX). A small family burial will follow where she will be laid to rest alongside her daughter and mother.

The Boatright family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love they have received and the many kind words spoken on her behalf. They are confident that Amy is having a joyful reunion in heaven and continuing to bless the lives of those privileged to be around her.
