Amalia was born July 10th, 1935, in Zacatecas, Mexico as the youngest of 12 children to Calixta and Zacarias Ornelas. Amalia was a devoted mother, provider, carpenter, gardener, artist, and so much more that it is impossible to list the knowledge she had and shared.
In her early years she married Luis C. Andrade (Divorced), and as a single mother she raised her family. She had many jobs working in a bakery, EPISD, auto assembly industry, then training others in the maquiladoras in Juarez and received her GED as well as her citizenship. To financially supplement her family, she had her own small businesses of selling wedding cakes, crafts fairs, tailoring and any idea she could come up with. Some of her most passionate volunteer acts included being a part of the “Rosary Altar Society '' at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Andress HS Band Boosters, and as a “Hija de Maria” for The Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. She then went on to have a career as an assembly worker for Boeing. She received many awards and honors and was offered to continue her education to become an engineer for the company. She then decided to retire in 2000 to spend time with her grandchildren, travel to visit family and make several international pilgrimages.
She is survived by her four children – Oscar, Leticia (Manny), Hugo (Stacy), Patricia (Israel), ten grandchildren, nine Great Grandchildren (with one on the way), two birds, sisters, Isabel, Beatriz, and brother Roberto as well as a plenitude of primos/primas, y sobrinos/sabrinas.
This is only a tiny pinch of her life. If you would like to know more, talk to anyone that had the privilege of knowing her, each one will have a different story, please let her story live on in you.
