Alfred (Al) Harry Anderson Jr., loving husband, father and teacher passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the age of 80. Mr. Anderson attended and graduated from Texas Western College with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Music and compiled post graduate hours. Al also graduated from the U.S. Naval School of Music in Washington, D.C. He was in the U.S. Army 65th and 424th Army bands, performed with the El Paso and Southwestern Dance Orchestras, he was also the 1st trumpet player in the Tennessee All-State Band and the 2nd trumpet player in the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra. He was a music teacher for the El Paso Independent School District teaching at Bowie High School for 9 years and then at Austin High School for 22 years. Mr. Anderson also taught at Adams State College. Al loved teaching music and touched many hundreds of lives throughout his career. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Joseph Anderson. Mr. Anderson is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Margaret A. Anderson, their children Christine Althoff (George), Mark Joseph Anderson (Monica) and Amanda Anderson, daughter-in-law Julianne Anderson. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lise Jamison (Andy), Gregory Althoff, Nicholas, Jacob, Elizabeth and Jurgen Anderson and great-grandson, Joshua Jamison, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Anderson family will be receiving family and friends on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm with Rosary at 6:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 North Resler Drive. Memorial Mass will be held Monday, December 23, 2013 at 1:00 pm at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 400 W. Sunset Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to The Al Anderson Music Scholarship Fund-WestStar Bank, 500 N. Mesa, El Paso, TX 79901, Attn. Arlene Carroll. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
