Aida R. Muñoz, 81, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on September 4, 2023, after a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso, TX. She is survived by her brother Efren Rivera, Jr., four children, Jon Muñoz (Washington, DC), Mark Muñoz (El Paso, TX), Yvonne Terrazas (El Paso, TX) and Steven Muñoz (El Paso, TX), three grandchildren Mark Muñoz II, Alyssa Terrazas and Gabriel Terrazas, and one great granddaughter Aria Muñoz. She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 49 years, John A. Muñoz, by her parents, Efren and Jacinta Rivera and her aunt Gloria Castro.
Muñoz was a career civil servant with 40 years of service to the U.S. Army Air Defense Center at Fort Bliss, TX. She had roles of increasing responsibility beginning with the Air Defense School, then moving on to Combat Development, Security, and Logistics that culminated in her position as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff in the Command Group for 25 years. During that time, she supported 10 Chiefs of Staff and 2 Garrison Commanders. She was highly respected and recognized for her contributions to the Command Group. Among her many accolades, she was honored to receive numerous Commander Awards for Civilian Service, a Meritorious Service Medal, and the Military Order of St. Barbara Medal. When she retired in January 2005, she was recognized by Major General, Michael A. Vane, with the Superior Civilian Service Award.
Muñoz took immense pride in her community and was active in civic and advocacy organizations. She was intensely supportive of her children’s interests. She often immersed herself in their academic interests by taking on leadership roles such as Cub Scout Den Mother and as a member Eastwood High School Band Boosters. She also supported their athletic pursuits in softball, baseball, soccer, tennis, and the Soap Box Derby.
Muñoz would say that her family is his greatest source of pride. She loved her family deeply and took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and her great grandchild.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 9:30 to 11:30 A.M. in the Chapel of Funeraria Del Angel Martin East. Funeral Mass for Mrs. Muñoz will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1050 N. Clark Rd at 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. Serving as pallbearers will be Jon Muñoz, Mark Muñoz, Mark Muñoz II, Steven Muñoz, Peter Sayotovich, and Gabriel Terrazas. Honorary pallbearers will be Efren Rivera, Jr., Rick Rivera, Daniel Muñoz, and Doug Jensen.
