Our beloved Adelina Ruiz Alonzo, who many knew as “Lina,” passed away peacefully with family by her side on July 25, 2022. She was 87 years old. Adelina grew up in the close-knit, working-class community of Smeltertown and lived and worked in El Paso her entire life. Those that knew her admired her strong will and lively sense of humor. She enjoyed singing, dancing, cooking, shopping, reading the newspaper, and connecting with friends and family daily.
Adelina was a true matriarch and lived a vibrant life through each and every one of her family members. She proudly displayed pictures of them all over her house as well as souvenirs from their travels around the world. Adelina took great pride in raising her four children and making sure they had nice clothes to wear and homecooked meals. In the last decade of her life, her visits, calls, and video chats from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immense joy, as did the company of her three dogs.
Adelina was preceded in death by her mother Paula, her first son Felix, and her husband Catalino. She is survived by her daughters: Patricia Anne Alonzo and Leticia Miller (Bill), her son: Gilbert Alonzo, grandchildren: Dr. William Paul Miller (Jessica), Eric David Miller (Katie), Robert Patrick Miller (Teresa), Gilbert Alonzo Jr (Lorie), Dr. Christopher Anthony Alonzo, and Stacey Michelle Alonzo, great-grandchildren: Leon, Morgan, Liam, Ariana, Isaac, Evan Jayson, and Marin.
Adelina will be missed dearly by all who knew her and her spirited nature. She will be buried alongside her husband of over 60 years, a Navy veteran, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 7th at Hillcrest Funeral Home from 5-9pm with a Rosary Service at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 8th at 10am at Saint Rafael Catholic Church followed by burial at Fort Bliss at 11:30am (masks required).
