Virgil Leroy Williams, 93 of Smackover passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Hospital in Little Rock. He was born January 22, 1918, to Fred Williams and Jane Kennedy Williams in Piedmont, OK.
He was a member of Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Smackover, a Master Mason, a member of the Norphlet Lodge #718 for 65 years, Edmond Chapter No. 247 Order of Eastern Star in Edmond, OK, and the Dodson-McMenis Sunday School Class. Before his retirement, he worked as a drilling foreman for Kerr-McGee Oil Corporation.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 47 years, Betty Jo Leard Williams; second wife of 19 years, Elnora Bailey Williams; son, Leslie Joe Williams; brother; Vernon L. Williams; sister, Ruth Frances Beine; grandson, Kevin Corbett; and great-grandson, Jae Michael McNaughton.
Survivors include two sons, Garry E. Williams and his wife Kenna of Smackover; Freddie L. Williams and his wife Lynda of Kilgore, TX; brother, Wesley Eugene Williams of New Iberia, LA; sister-in-law, Louise Williams of Oklahoma City, OK; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mae Williams of Smackover.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Young’s.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Maple Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Dixon and Rev. Lawrence Harrison. Burial will follow at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
