Mrs. Ellen was a retired realtor having been in the real estate business in El Dorado for many years and was named Realtor of the Year in 1995. Marilyn was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, serving as Director of the 5-year old department for 30 years. She served on numerous boards including Y-Teens, Girl Scouts, Explorers Club, Union County League of Women Voters, Union County Republican Committee, Charity League, Boys Club Auxiliary, Boy Scouts, Arkansas Federation of Republican Women, Child Family Guidance Center, South Arkansas Mental Health Center, United Way of El Dorado, Camp Fire Girls, Union County Young Republican Club, and Alpha House.
She was a member of the Athena Club and served as a volunteer at Life Touch Hospice, American Cancer Society and Heart Fund and March of Dimes. She was a charter member of Union County Republican Women's Club. Marilyn was an avid traveler and enjoyed special trips with friends and family.
Preceding her in death along with her parents was a son, Christopher Sidney Ellen, and two brothers, Donald "Bus" Newell and Richard "Dick" Newell.
Survivors include her son, Scott Newell Ellen (Carol) of El Dorado and her daughter, Nancy Cathey (Joe) of Godley, Texas and grandchildren: Lilli Ellen, Nate Ellen (Katy), Natalie Cathey and Andrew Cathey. Surviving great-grandchildren are Alexandria Ellen, Kaysen Ellen and Johnathan Ellen.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022 in First Baptist Church with Rev. Jonathan Kelley and Rev. Brian Trostle officiating. Following the service a visitation will be held for family and friends at the church.
