James was born in Smackover, AR. on September 3, 1923; he was the son of Walter Wallace Parks, Sr. and Vera Murphy Parks. He was member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He retired from El Dorado Printing as press operator and later as a manager. James served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
James is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Jo Lewis Parks, a brother, Walter Wallace Parks, Jr., a son, James "Jim" Norman Parks Jr., and his wife Jean.
Survivors are a sister Betty Fair; grandchildren Dr. Jennifer Parks, Jeff Parks (Tami); a bonus granddaughter and caregiver Paula Horion; great-grandchildren Jonathan Parks (Chloe Looman), Joshua Parks (Bethany Cok), Alex Starkweather, Crystal Tipton (Mikie), Nicholas Morris (Angel), Gregory Meeks Jr, great great-grandchildren Abby Newman, Harper Goodin, Lydia Tipton, Landyn Tipton, Liam Tipton, Leah Tipton, Cassius Morris and Sonjia Morris along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023 in Young’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2023 in Young’s Chapel with interment to follow in Salem Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
