A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Young’s Funeral Home, El Dorado, Arkansas. She will be buried in Arlington Cemetery in the Prothro family plot next to her loving husband, Earl. The family invites you to visit with them at Young’s Funeral Home on Friday evening, May 1 from 4:00 to 6:00.
Helen lived most of her life in El Dorado, Arkansas but she spent the last 10 years at Aston Gardens in Naples, Florida, a place she called Paradise. While in El Dorado, she was employed by the Exchange Bank from which she retired after 28 years of service. Helen was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado, Arkansas.
Helen is survived by four loving children: Jane Martin (Jim), Mary Ann Dwyer, Freida Arledge (David) and Albert Prothro (Patrice); four grandchildren, Danielle Prothro, Ellenor Dwyer, Esther Dwyer, and Matt Arledge (Olga); one great-grandson, John Bollenbacher; and her brother, Horace Wilson of El Dorado.
Helen is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Albert Earl Prothro, Sr.; her sister, Mildred Truxton; and an infant daughter, Rebecca Nan.
Helen lived a long, full life and among her loves were her family, her orchids, reading and traveling. For as long as possible she traveled extensively worldwide and had wonderful memories of all the places she visited.
The family is very grateful for the wonderful care Helen received from the doctors, nurses and staff at NCH-North Hospital and AVOW Hospice in Naples. Your kindness helped all of us through this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Heart Association, AVOW Hospice or the charity of your choice.
