Harvey was born May 6, 1924 in Bernice, Louisiana to William Austin Knight and Myrtis Flurry Knight. He loved to fish, hunt and garden. He graduated from Bernice High School in 1942. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy for three years aboard the USS ARA in the Asiatic Theatre of operation in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon release from the Navy he attended N.Y.U. Trade School in El Dorado Arkansas. He worked for Arkansas Power and Light Company (AP&L) for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for 66 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 50 Years, Opal Ward Knight, and three brothers Billy Knight, Thomas Knight and Joe Henry Knight.
He is survived by his daughter Dianne Rowe (Buddy) of Collierville, TN; two grandchildren Lori Howell (Jason) of Collierville, TN and Jennifer Ritchey (Nick) of Collierville, TN; great grandchildren Carson Rowe, Bailey Howell (Maria), Paige Ritchey, Colton Ritchey, Stella Ritchey, and a great, great grandson Hayes Howell due in January 2025; one sister Gloria Nell Kelly of Shreveport, LA and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 16, 2024 at Youngs Chapel with funeral service following at 11:00 AM in El Dorado with Military Honors presented at the Chapel. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Pastor Clark Whitney, and remarks by Derrill Smith and Jack Godwin.
