Born on January 26, 1926 in Blevins, AR; she was the daughter of Olvy and Otha Dale Smith Garrett. A homemaker, Dorothy was an active member for 57 years at St. Mark United Methodist Church, she was a member of United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School and Bible School. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She had worked briefly at First National Bank and Woolco.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Gay Sallee, and her husband of 65 years, Alton Avery.
Survivors are four sons Alan Avery and Joe Avery and wife Marilyn all of El Dorado, Ted Avery and wife Rose of White Hall, AR, and Glen Avery and wife Elizabeth of Silsbee, TX; sisters Helen Cofer of Dechard, TN, Eleene Shay of Austin, TX, and Euna Mae Sheppard of Troy, MO; along with her grandchildren Shane Avery, Jason Avery both of Silsbee, TX, Jeff Avery of Norphlet, AR, Jessica Dumas of El Dorado, Amber Avery and Rachel Avery both of White Hall, AR and eight Great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at St. Mark United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Proctor officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Young’s Funeral Directors Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial may be made to St. Marks United Methodist Church 2010 W Hillsboro Street, El Dorado, AR 71730.
